Capactor 7 on Android - Toolbar and Tab Bar - display issue

I have updated my app (Ionic 8, VueJs) to Capacitor 7 and noticed that the app doesn’t “respect” the system toolbar on tablets, instead the content (header) is squeezed behind the system toolbar, causing the toolbar title to be halfway cut off.

Same goes for my ion-tab-bar - the icons in the tab bar look squeezed (scaled) down and the respective tab labels aren’t even visible. They seemingly are hidden behind the system’s bottom bar (don’t know how you call it).

I have tested on two Android tablets (Samsung Galaxy A8 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite) and both show the above issue.

In Android Studio though, on a virtual Pixel 7 Pro (which is a phone, not tablet), it looks as expected.

However, it looked ok on the two tablets before, meaning with Capacitor 6.

Edit: sometimes the ion-tab-bar un-squeezes and shows correctly (after closing and opening the app - not force closing). It almost looks a bit like an issue related to ion-safe-area, however, I haven’t changed anything in this regard.

:partying_face: :tada: A BIG thank you to the Capacitor team!!!

Also, thank you for the general update and awesome news about OutSystems deeply integrating Capacitor. I miss the regular news we used to get about Ionic and Capacitor like the quarterly/yearly update events :slight_smile:

Capactor 7 on Android - Toolbar and Tab Bar - display issue

Migrating to Capacitor 7 required to set targetSdkVersion to 35 and thus edge-to-edge is enforced.

It seems like this is a scenario that Capacitor/Ionic should prioritize addressing. As far as I know, there is currently no available documentation on this topic…

Update: I found this and it’s working!

Blank white screen

I faced the same issue before. It usually happens because of small mistakes, like an extra slash in the template URLs, just like you found. Also, checking the browser console or device logs for any errors can help. Running the app with ionic run android -l -c is also a good way to find problems while debugging.

Simulating a Broken Screen Effect in Ionic App

I’m building an app where I want to simulate a “broken screen” effect (like cracked glass) triggered by a shake or button press. I found a useful example of this effect here: Broken Screen something similar to this, but within my Ionic app.

I’m thinking of using CSS animations or overlaying a broken screen image, and maybe adding haptic feedback for realism. I’m also curious if any Ionic plugins can detect motion to trigger this effect.

Anyone have tips or examples? How can I implement this without hurting performance too much?

Basically i need the badge count reflection on app logo the way how the app logo count is handled with Whatsapp

@robingenz I don’t get the function called with no barcodes returned when I close the scanning view

why this is not working
BarcodeScanner.addListener(“scanError”, (err) => {
console.log(“scanError”)
}
it should get the error event ‘scan canceled.’ but it does not

Ionic App update ionic3 - ionic7

Hello, my name is Andreus and I need big help.

I’m working on updating an Ionic app. The app was originally made with Ionic 3, and now I’m trying to update it to Ionic 7.

To do this, I started a new project, added the files, and updated them. It has been really hard to achieve, and now I’m facing a problem that I can’t figure out the reason for. When I open the project in Android Studio and build it, after the splash screen, there’s only a blank page. Looking in the Logcat (at the link), I don’t find the error that’s causing this.

Can someone help me? Here are the package.json and the Logcat log.
